Archetypal Dynamics of 2007

Archetypes as Planetary energies

Why at any particular time can a society get swept away by a specific way of seeing the world and then begin to act accordingly to such an extant that the populace appears to be hypnotized, nearly possessed, by that idea and everything it implies?

Why during the enlightenment were products of mankind enlightened?

Why during romanticism was such beauty created?

Why during terrorism were people so afraid, cruel and violent?

Ancient, (Plato) archetypes were originally considered essential building blocks of reality (objective) where a more modern developmental view (Jung) sees them as the basic functions of the human psyche (subjective). The integration of these for today’s cosmology is expressed as quantum, objective and simultaneously subjective, both ‘out there’ and ‘within’- “as above, so below”. Whereas ancient astrology was relegated to objective events, current astrology involves the recognition of human co-creation of those events.

Distinct correlations between the various archetypes and planets have long been observed. Because mankind is beginning to rethink its concept of unlimited power over nature characteristic since the industrial revolution, the tide is turning toward our being a part of nature. Astrology and the rhythm of our solar system (our immediate environment) are becoming reintegrated into our awareness. Archetypal waves of influence will be seen more and more clearly predictable by planetary patterns and timing.

2007

There are three major archetypal dynamics operative for 2007 that can be determined by planetary movements and the relationships these planets engage with each other.

They are:

Jupiter square Uranus

Saturn opposite Neptune

Jupiter conjunct Pluto

How they blend as pairs has many variations, many levels, and many possible depths. Then each pair must blend with each other pair bringing even more possibilities, including stresses, creations, and new blendings.

All three of these pairs are intermingling during 2007, and Saturn was opposite Neptune also during part of 2006. The Jupiter/Pluto influence will continue through 2008.

That we may not be trapped and hypnotized by the prevailing winds of archetypal influences, and thereby limited by it, this process is useful:

  • Identify and understand the archetype, its negatives and also its transcendent properties
  • Identify the planet  associated with the archetype
  • Know the timing of the challenge presented
  • Rise above the influence with the aid of imagination, information, integrity.

Jupiter square Uranus

Uranus

Most simply the planet Uranus is associated with change, but more specifically with rebellion, reformation, revolution, with an aspect of suddenness, unexpectedness, and catharsis. Like lightening, it is shocking, and fast, and can break structures in two. With it comes the New – new thinking, new inventions, and new beginnings. It comes with flashes of insight, enlightening thought itself. Although neutral itself, the structures broken and rendered useless or outworn, can flavor human experience with a sense of destruction, shock, loss, and disorientation.

Prominent Uranus aspects were evident historically in major breakthroughs, revolutions, and awakenings.

Jupiter

Regardless of whether you look to Greek (Zeus), Roman (Jupiter), Babylonian (Marduk), or even further back to Platonic, Hermetic, or Renaissance traditions, the planet Jupiter is very distinct, very Grande in its reputation and mythology. Called the ‘Great Benefic’ it is consistently associated with expansion, ‘bigness’, magnitude, prosperity, generosity, great growth (including education and higher knowledge), and success. On the down side it is associated with waste, gluttony, excess, greed, and inflation. When associated with another planet, its tendency is to expand and magnify the qualities and expression of that planet.

Please consider these points as you would consider a wave formation, understanding this planetary influence is operative throughout the whole year.

Addressing the first planetary pair on our list of major aspects for 2007, Jupiter square Uranus, one can imagine the synergy to these two archetypal forces. An influence of rebellion and change is magnified and expanded upon. Breakthroughs in knowledge bring blessings. Expanded and successfully creative and emancipatory innovations (and discoveries) can bring new beginnings into a culture. These innovations can have a releasing effect on humanity freeing it from long lived restrictions and ignorance and imbuing it with greater ease and well being. On the other hand Jupiter’s expansive effect with Uranus can exacerbate extremist violence and rash, unrestrained, and irrational attempts to usurp the power of the status quo. These aspects historically serve to ignite larger patterns of rebellion of the under trodden against the 'powers that be' in the balancing of forces. When humanity has been inhumane these archetypal combination can even the score, and often bring violence.

Saturn opposite Neptune

Saturn

The Saturn archetype is well known as Kronos, the father of time, the teacher (from the school of ‘hard knocks’), the grim reaper, karma, and the ‘wise old man’. More essentially, Saturn is associated with the principle of consolidation, concretization, manifestation, the proverbial ‘reality check’, bottom line, what is, and what has to happen or has to be done. It seems to be present at endings, failures, defeats, restrictions, imprisonments, and death. It rules those in authority, from father to boss, to government, and even the wise 'old man on the mountain'. The Saturnian principle provides structure and discipline to all creation and is evident in periods of contraction and conservatism. Historically humanity has tended to experience difficulty, oppression, exhaustion, hard work, lack, and repression while forging new structures during the Saturnian periods. The more transcendent side of Saturn is associated with fortitude, endurance, determination, strength of character and integrity, accomplishment, expertise, accountability, responsibility, reliability, and stability.

Neptune

Neptune, known as the God or Goddess of the sea is associated with water, the ocean in particular and all it implies as a symbol. Psychologically it is the collective unconscious (the unlimited sea of the psyche). Opposite to the nature of Saturn, Neptune’s influence serves to dissolve boundaries and structures rather than to enforce them. It is associated with the Oneness of Being, in all traditions, from Brahma, to the Mystic Christ, to the Goddess, spiritual beauty, and all concepts of the Divine, also Maya, or the illusion. Whereas Saturn seeks to separate and define, Neptune seeks to dissolve and unite. Accordingly it is primary in transcendent spiritual experience but also in self delusion, deception, escapism and substance abuse. Although suspect in the confusion between spiritual experience and self delusion, the principle is that of the divine idea of oneness and spiritual compassion.

                                 (within range from 2004-2007)

Please consider these points as you would consider a wave formation, understanding this planetary influence is operative throughout a long period.

Saturn opposition Neptune: Imagine these two planets, (Saturn, the forger of boundaries and separations, and Neptune, the dissolver of boundaries and separations) in opposition to each other! They govern two completely different domains and versions of reality. The possibilities of meaning reach far beyond what space permits here, what research has yet to reveal, and (what I feel) humanity is capable of perceiving while within this process.

Firstly, one can see Saturn limiting, restricting, opposing and attempting to discredit and regulate all things connected to Neptune, bringing religious skepticism, conflicts between the religious and the secular, between religion and science (creationism vs. evolution), combining conservatism with religion, criticism of religion, and the moving of religion into government. Secondly, there is the merging of belief in altered states of consciousness and unity with the afterlife into the structure of society via books, movies, TV, and mass media. Healing techniques outside the Saturnian principle of tangible evidence and the scientific method are merged into the culture and attest to the collective recognition of forces that cannot be measured by science as it is now.

Psychologically Saturn and Neptune together often display as malaise, depression, loss of hope (Saturn restricting the Neptune ideal), lack of belief, chronic illness, mass despair, sorrow and/or compassion. Since these two planets began their stand off we have had the aftermath mass sorrow and disillusion of 911, mass death (Saturn) by water (Neptune) of Katrina, and all the disappointment in the government and loss of the ideal of the United States, and more world wide -the hope that good will prevail (the underworld tactics that allow terrorism success) Along with this the Tsunami in Asia, mass grief, contaminations, and disease.

Empathy and compassion grew in many of these situations and glaringly, a lack of compassion and lack of empathy was apparent as well. Demoralizing war becomes chronic (Saturn) and slowly wears down any idealism(Neptune) left.

The more transcendent integration of this opposition takes many forms. During these times individuals begin to dream of something better – something that is forged (Saturn) into society’s structures and checks and balances to make sure the future is guaranteed a more compassionate outcome. Many are forced to a deeper faith in the midst of tragedy, or harshness. An inner search to find something beyond ‘reality’ becomes necessary. A world is integrated that is both spiritual and practical. Science and spirit are realized as the same by the populace. Shared suffering dissolves boundaries. Although the use of deception (Neptune) by government (Saturn) initiated a ‘loss of the dream’ to Americans who had become complacent, at the same time, these ‘reality checks’ (Saturn) can also bring the empowerment that comes from confronting fraud, and dissolving the structures that allowed it to flourish.

Obviously the challenges are to keep spirits up, keep the faith, be willing to question authority and be open to the truth of the lie, to ‘have a dream’ , and continue to seek a better world. It no longer works to defer to others, namely, those in power, to be responsible to be good, while we sleep. The witnessing of the contamination of authority may continue, the revelation of the false may continue, the depression of the masses may continue, yet the more transcendent choices are there – to take more responsibility (Saturn) for the dream (Neptune) for all beings.

Jupiter conjunct Pluto

Regardless of whether you look to Greek (Zeus), Roman (Jupiter), Babylonian (Marduk), or even further back to Platonic, Hermetic, or Renaissance traditions, the planet Jupiter is very distinct, very grand in its reputation and mythology. Called the ‘Great Benefic’ it is consistently associated with expansion, ‘bigness’, magnitude, prosperity, generosity, great growth (including education and higher knowledge), and success. On the down side it is associated with waste, gluttony, excess, greed, and inflation. When associated with another planet, its tendency is to expand and magnify the qualities and extent of expression and influence of that planet

Pluto

Ancient traditions have called the archetype Pluto Hades, Dionysus, Kali, Shakti, and the serpent power. As an archetype Dionysus is elemental, erotic, underworld energy. Since the discovery of the planet named Pluto we have seen the emergence of two very telling symbols-the atomic and nuclear bomb and the emergence of the modern superhero, Superman (and all the variations of humans with superhuman powers) as dominant modern myth. Pluto is associated with ‘powers beyond control’, including the force of birth, death, and sex. At our stage of evolution, people tend to be overwhelmed when Pluto pervades, and life has a way of getting ‘out of control’. Governing that which is repressed and below the surface, Pluto’s function is to unleash this energy in order to ‘destroy and transform’ the contents with redemption. Symbolically this is the Phoenix, burnt to ashes just to rise reformed. Associated with extremes of all kinds, intensity, depth, power, kundalini, catastrophe (volcanic); the worst case scenario being hell released. Yet Pluto is the great transformer from lower to higher, purifying all contents of the psyche to personal and cultural empowerment.

Jupiter conjunct Pluto  December 11, 2007

Keep in mind this influence is by no means limited to this date but active for some time before and after.

Imagine these two ‘big deal’ planets getting together, remembering that Jupiter expands what it touches. Pluto governing nuclear power - intensity pervades this industry. As investors see it as an upcoming promising market and ecologists question its safety, conflicts arise with money and power at the root, and safeguards being too easily discarded. The ‘big guys’ will be cooking up mergers, acquisitions, foreclosures, repossessions, buy outs, all the spoils of the Saturn Neptune opposition and the losses from those disappointed and disenchanted.  This is a very significant conjunction influencing the government, and power will shift there. The influence is complicated by the fact that it takes place at 28 degrees of Sagittarius, which is where our galactic center lies- adding to the extreme and powerful nature of this event.

Pluto enters Capricorn, January 2008

Pluto enters Capricorn in January, 2008. Undoubtedly we will see political upheaval unprecedented in American history. The last one was the birth of this nation! The renewal of this 248 year cycle may bring something just as significant, and just as independent and new, with all the shift of power to go with it!
